When Fear Knocks
Hi,
There is a short quote that has stayed with me for years:
Fear knocked at the door.
Courage got up and opened it.
There was nobody there.
I love that. Because so many things we fear only exist in our heads, the rejection, the failure, the embarrassment, the worst-case scenario. We imagine it so clearly that it feels real.
But once we finally take the step, we often realize: There was nobody there.
There is another story I think about a lot.
When a winter storm hits, cows run away from it. But the storm catches up, keeping them inside the storm much longer.
Buffalo do the exact opposite. They turn toward the storm and run straight into it.
It is uncomfortable and rough, but they get through it faster.
Life works the same way.
Some fears disappear the moment you face them. And some storms are real: a hard conversation, a new release, starting from zero, putting your art out there, leaving your comfort zone.
But running away doesn’t make it easier. It only keeps you inside the storm longer.
Looking back, the most important milestones in my life didn’t happen because I was fearless. They happened because I moved anyway. I started before I felt ready, without knowing the full path.
So maybe this is your reminder today:
You don’t have to wait until fear is gone.
You don’t have to feel perfectly ready.
You don’t have to know exactly how it all works out.
Sometimes the only way out is straight through.
Start now. Take the step. Open the door.
